Clifford Skinner: I was born December 15, 1972 and have grown up in Montgomery, Texas. I sing lead and baritone and play drums for the quartet. The songs that I sing include “God On the Mountain”, “I’m Rich”, and “I Never Shall Forget The Day”. My hobbies include playing drums and singing—I started singing in my late 20’s. I have worked in Kid’s Ministries, Kid’s Camps, and Children Church. My favorite Gospel group is Gold City. When I am not singing I go to a church called Springs of Living Water where I work with Kid’s Church.

Russell Skinner: In February of the last year of World War II, the most adorable baby boy was born to Jessie and Lavonne Skinner, who after the war lived in Houston, Texas. Their little bundle of joy grew up on the north side of Houston where he attended grades 1-12 of school. He remembers 3rd grade as being the best three years of his life. Though the family was poor, he remembers generously sharing with his baby brother and sister so they could have the things he couldn’t have as a sweet child. His singing talent shone forth in the 5th grade, when he changed a song he was going to sing before the class from “Davy Crockett” to “The Royal Telephone”. He has sung in school choirs and church meetings, singing solos or in trios, duets, and quartets ever since then. He has been at one time or another—Counsel Runner, Janitor, Grass Cutter, Mail Carrier, Real Estate Salesman, Pastor, Owner of Skinner’s Carpet, Fuller Brush Salesman, Amway Salesman, Flower Deliveryman, and as a child, he sold sweeping compound with his dad. His first recording was an 8-Track tape that came out one week after 8-Tracks were discontinued. Years later, he recorded a cassette tape and then even more later he made a CD. He is presently singing with the Good News Singers. The part he sings is hard to define—anywhere between tenor and baritone. My favorite verse is somewhere in the Book of James—just read it until you find it. “Let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, and slow to wrath.”

Cheryl King: I was born on Sept 7, 1974 in Denver, Colorado, but I got to Texas as soon as I could. I was adopted when I was a baby-- my parents picked me up in Kansas City, Missouri, and my wonderful life began. I have one brother who is older than me by 2 years so I am the baby, enough said, right? I went to school in a small town and graduated there with only about 100 other students. I was involved in band and have some awesome memories there. I have been married to my husband John Mark of almost 4 years now. We have no kids yet-- does my husband count (ha ha)? I work for a large company in a very little room. I count money all day and I'm one of their auditors. I currently play the piano for the Good News Singers. My favorite group of all times is the Cathedrals. My hobbies stem from my early childhood. My mother had a resale shop. I love looking at antiques. I love hitting a great garage sale and getting some great bargains. I don't really have just one favorite Bible verse, but Deuteronomy 4:29-31 says, “Seek the Lord your God and you will find Him if you seek Him with all your heart and with all your soul. When you are in distress and all these things come upon you in the latter days, when you turn to the Lord your God and obey His voice.”

John Mark King: I was born In Houston, Texas on August 29, 1970. I have lived in Conroe, Texas nearly all of my life. My early childhood and home life was a lot of fun and I have precious memories that I will never forget. I have one older sister Kelley, one younger brother Kyle, and two loving parents John and Cheryl King. Now I have a wonderful wife of nearly four years, and her name is also Cheryl King. Cheryl is a very loving and giving wife, and one of the best things that has ever happened in my life. I graduated from Conroe High School in 1988 and then went to North Harris College where I received my Associates Degree in 1995. I then received my Bachelor Of Arts Degree in Music (Cum Laude) in 2000. I currently work in sales for the shoe industry.
I have been involved in many types of music groups and have taken great experiences in each one of them. I have sung and played drum set in pop groups, choirs and various musicals in college and outside groups. I have also played and sang with Cathey Lewis Ministries where I got my first taste of Contemporary Christian Music in the early to mid 90’s. In addition, I have also sung and played percussion in the Woodlands Christian Church Praise and Worship Team located in The Woodlands, Texas. For the past four years I have been singing in the Good News Singers Quartet in which we sing Southern Gospel Music. My voice part is usually tenor, but I like singing the other voice parts because all of the parts are unique in every piece of music. I hope I continue to keep singing this type of gospel music because I believe it has an awesome message and story to tell about our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

Gordon Skinner: I was born in 1956 and raised in Houston. Since I grew up with two brothers and three sisters, my early years at home were fun and exciting. There’s never a dull moment when you’re around Doris, Russell, Aleta, Steve, and Gayle! We enjoyed entertaining a lot of company and friends, playing games, and participating in many church activities. Mother and Daddy, Jessie and Lavonne Skinner, encouraged me to study the Scriptures, live a Christ-like life, and sing. Uncle Aris Skinner and Uncle Hobson Skinner were great fans of quartet singing and have influenced my life. I have been involved in gospel singing since age 12. My heritage includes my favorite Gospel groups-- the Blackwood Brothers, Statesmen Quartet, and the Happy Goodmans. After graduating from Southern Bible College, I served as Evangelist and later as Youth Pastor. I attended Sam Houston State University and teach History in Middle School. I sing lead and baritone with the Good News Singers. I enjoy photography, playing piano, singing, and sharing the Gospel. I’m glad that we are able to look to Christ and cast our care upon Him, for He cares for us.
