About The Bethels:
The Bethels have always been a family group and remain so today. The current group represents the fourth and fifth generation of Bethel Family singers. The group consists of sisters Deanna "Bethel" Morgan, Donna "Bethel" Fontaine, with the addition of Donna's daughter Wendy Showalter. Watch for the sixth generation as Wendy's children, Lane (age 8) and Kailey (age 4) are also performing. There has always been something special about the blending of voices from the same genetic family. The Bethels have captured that unique and special harmony in their renditions.

Although they seek to please their audiences with a variety of gospel styles, their personal favorite is Southern Gospel.

The Bethels were honored to be a part of The National Quartet Convention Talent Competition for 2006, in Louisville Kentucky. The Group placed seventh in the top ten out of fifty groups.

The Bethels have recently completed their new project in Nashville, TN. The project is titles "Come & Sing" and will be available soon. You can visit The Bethels website at www.thebethels.com. The website has been updated and you can hear five songs from the new project on the music page.

Thank you,
The Bethels

The Beymers

"If you could see what I once was,
If you could go with me
Back to where I started from,
I know you would see
A miracle of love that took me
In its sweet embrace
And made me what I am today,
Just an old sinner, saved by Grace"
Words and music © Bill Gaither

The words to that fine song happen to sum up the way we feel...and as long as we have breath to sing or speak, we will sing and speak of the Grace and Mercy of our loving God.

We (Hank & Bev) have been singing together for over 40 years, married for 39, and our blend is as the Lord would describe..."the twain shall become one." Our sound has been described as somewhere between Roy Rogers and Dale Evans and Manhattan Transfer on chicken fried steak and grits.

For many years we sang and played for the world...background vocals for many famous stars (Willie Nelson, Jerry Wallace, Mickey Gilley, Freddie Fender, Johnnie Lee and more), including some #1 country hits, instrumental work in the studio and on stage, and invitations to "come to Nashville and be famous!" We left all that behind in 1980, dedicating the rest of our lives and talents to praising and preaching Jesus to a lost and dying world. Over the years, we have performed in great places such as street missions, back alleys, living rooms and open fields, as well as Indian Reservations, churches, tents, and convention centers, and from
2002 to 2005 published a Christian newspaper (The Master's Table) distributed throughout central Texas. (http://masterstable.john812.com).

In 2006 we planted the Cowboy Church in Thrall, Texas (http://www.john812.com/cowboychurch), and continue to pastor there as well as going out to other venues including the Bartlett State Prison, tent revivals and more.

We present the Gospel of Jesus Christ in a compelling way through song and preaching...sometimes with humor, but always in seriousness and Truth firmly anchored in the Word of God.

We would love to have the opportunity to minister in song and Word to your church or group.

Breakaway

November 2006 marked the beginning of a new quartet in gospel music. Formed by Phil Toler and Kevin Hester, Breakaway has emerged as an up-and-coming quartet in the southern gospel music industry.

The name, Breakaway, was submitted to the group by Richard Epler, Associate Pastor of Calvary Crossroad Church in Santa Fe, TX. Upon hearing the suggested name, the guys knew immediately that they had heard a name with profound meaning, and shortly thereafter, adopted it for the group. “We all are held captive by our sin,” says manager of the group, Phil Toler. He goes on to say, “The blood of Jesus frees us from the bondage of sin; thus, breaks us away from its captivity, allowing us to live a life more abundant in Christ.

Closer Walk

Closer Walk was formed in March 2006 when founding members and lifelong friends, Todd Jordan and Johnny Zaborowski, were invited to sing in a local church. We never started out to form a group but God had other plans. From the first song, the Lord cemented in our hearts the desire to spread His message in song. The Lord blessed us with one of the finest Southern Gospel pianist shortly thereafter, Don Hopper. Don not only has made a tremendous impact with his ability in playing and arrangements but, in a mentor capacity, has given us the benefit of his more than thirty years experience in Gospel music.

In July 2007 Closer Walk had the opportunity to be a part of the Steve Hurst School of Music in Nashville, TN where we were able to learn from some of the most recognized names in Gospel music today; but more importantly God used this time to revive our spirits and our outlook towards bringing people into a place of worship.

In October 2007 the Lord saw fit to bring us the newest addition to the group, Mark Smith, to fill the Tenor position. We are thrilled with the ability God has given Mark and his desire to use it for the glory of our Lord.

The Lord has allowed Closer Walk to minister in churches all across Houston and surrounding areas, and we want all to know our hearts desire is that the Lord will be magnified through our songs and in our spirits and that our ministry will be a blessing and encouragement to all we meet.

About Jim & Katherine Ryals

Jim was born in Brewton, Alabama where he spent most of his childhood years. Later in his adult years Jim enlisted in the United States Air Force. Jim went most of his life without knowing Jesus as his own personal Savior, but on December 2005 Jim finally realized his need for Jesus and that he could no longer do things his own way. Jim accepted Christ into his heart at this time in his life. This is when Jim began singing with Katherine and they started the Faithful II singing ministry. Katherine and Jim believe that God used the song “Two Shoes” that Katherine sang for several years, to show Jim his need for salvation.

Katherine grew up in Bristol, Virginia with a large family of six and then relocated to Houston, Texas later in her adult years. Katherine was devoted to her previous career for 18 years until it came to an end. This was a turning point in Katherine’s life and Ministry. Katherine has been singing gospel music since childhood. She knew that this was her calling from God and began to devote all of her time and opportunities to sing for God. In 2003 Katherine went to "Ben Speer's Stamps Baxter School of Music" through a scholarship fund offered through "BAGMA". Later, in 2003 Katherine produced her first CD. In January 2005 Katherine released "JESUS HOLD MY HAND" in which she wrote and produced the songs on the album.

The Faithful II have advanced in their ministry through many people’s prayers and support, for which they are extremely thankful. God has been the one to make them successful and this is truly a dream come true for them. They know that God is pouring down blessing after blessing for them in their ministry.

Katherine and Jim have been throughout Texas and other states singing and performing music for the Lord. They have performed special singing at weddings, nursing homes, funerals and many other special events. They have also performed for the following churches:

Duke, Finley

Website: www.cowboy-up.net

Phone: 713.991.4357

E-mail: finleyduke@yahoo.com

Born in Vernon, Texas about 15 miles from Doan's crossing on the Red River where the Western Trail of the famous Chisholm Trail crossed the river going north to cattle markets in Kansas.

His music began in California singing for tourists at Chuck Ryaan's Double CCR movie ranch and becoming a member of Chuck Ryaan's stage show as guitar player and backup with the Double CCR 'Ranch Boys.' This soon lead to strapping on six guns and wearing big hats and becoming part of the wild west show. That consisted of getting shot at a lot and falling down.
Getting shot at didn't hurt much but falling down usually did.

The show went on the road some too. Next thing was going before the movie camera as a cowboy. Finley worked with the 'All American Cowboy - Chuck Ryaan' in movies and performing Western Music.
The work was fun and Finley met a lot of wonderful people doing it.
Finley's movies were: 'The All American Cowboy,' 'At trails end,' 'Riders of the rough shod trail,' 'One for the devil' and a few others.

While all that was going on he finished broadcasting school in Hollywood and passed all the FCC tests and got a license.
Well, that sat on the shelf for a while. Until God was ready.
Finley did a gospel music program for a lady named 'Lois Gibbons' and she said she would like to start a gospel music record show, but didn't have a 'disk jockey.' That was the start of his gospel music career. The Radio program 'Gospel Favorites' was well received in California.

Finley is a BMI songwriter and has several songs recorded and published.
Finley has recorded with New River Records, Gulf Stream Records and Love Records has recorded five albums and has ten radio single releases.

As Western music and the cowboy scene faded Finley became more involved in gospel music as a performer, working with most of the west cost groups.
Traveling for a while with 'The Crownsmen' who were with Hal Spenser's, Manna Music label, in Los Angeles.

Finley has since moved to Texas and lives in Houston and continues to stay active in the preservation of the Singing Cowboy and Western movie traditions and is an advisory board member of 'The Hollywood Stuntmen's Hall Of Fame.'

Good News Singers, The

Clifford Skinner
My name is Clifford Skinner and I am with the Good News Singers Quartet. I was born December 15, 1972 and have grown up in Montgomery, Texas. I sing lead and baritone and play drums for the quartet. The songs that I sing include “God On the Mountain”, “I’m Rich”, and “I Never Shall Forget The Day”. My hobbies include playing drums and singing—I started singing in my late 20’s. I have worked in Kid’s Ministries, Kid’s Camps, and Children Church. My favorite Gospel group is Gold City. When I am not singing I go to a church called Springs of Living Water where I work with Kid’s Church.

Russell Skinner
In February of the last year of World War II, the most adorable baby boy was born to Jessie and Lavonne Skinner, who after the war lived in Houston, Texas. Their little bundle of joy grew up on the north side of Houston where he attended grades 1-12 of school. He remembers 3rd grade as being the best three years of his life. Though the family was poor, he remembers generously sharing with his baby brother and sister so they could have the things he couldn’t have as a sweet child.
His singing talent shone forth in the 5th grade, when he changed a song he was going to sing before the class from “Davy Crockett” to “The Royal Telephone”. He has sung in school choirs and church meetings, singing solos or in trios, duets, and quartets ever since then.
He has been at one time or another—Counsel Runner, Janitor, Grass Cutter, Mail Carrier, Real Estate Salesman, Pastor, Owner of Skinner’s Carpet, Fuller Brush Salesman, Amway Salesman, Flower Deliveryman, and as a child, he sold sweeping compound with his dad.
His first recording was an 8-Track tape that came out one week after 8-Tracks were discontinued. Years later, he recorded a cassette tape and then even more later he made a CD.
He is presently singing with the Good News Singers. The part he sings is hard to define—anywhere between tenor and baritone.
My favorite verse is somewhere in the Book of James—just read it until you find it. “Let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, and slow to wrath.”

Cheryl King
I was born on Sept 7, 1974 in Denver, Colorado, but I got to Texas as soon as I could. I was adopted when I was a baby-- my parents picked me up in Kansas City, Missouri, and my wonderful life began. I have one brother who is older than me by 2 years so I am the baby, enough said, right? I went to school in a small town and graduated there with only about 100 other students. I was involved in band and have some awesome memories there. I have been married to my husband John Mark of almost 4 years now. We have no kids yet-- does my husband count (ha ha)? I work for a large company in a very little room. I count money all day and I'm one of their auditors. I currently play the piano for the Good News Singers. My favorite group of all times is the Cathedrals. My hobbies stem from my early childhood. My mother had a resale shop. I love looking at antiques. I love hitting a great garage sale and getting some great bargains. I don't really have just one favorite Bible verse, but Deuteronomy 4:29-31 says, “Seek the Lord your God and you will find Him if you seek Him with all your heart and with all your soul. When you are in distress and all these things come upon you in the latter days, when you turn to the Lord your God and obey His voice.”

John Mark King
My name is John Mark King and I was born In Houston, Texas on August 29, 1970. I have lived in Conroe, Texas nearly all of my life. My early childhood and home life was a lot of fun and I have precious memories that I will never forget. I have one older sister Kelley, one younger brother Kyle, and two loving parents John and Cheryl King. Now I have a wonderful wife of nearly four years, and her name is also Cheryl King. Cheryl is a very loving and giving wife, and one of the best things that has ever happened in my life.
I graduated from Conroe High School in 1988 and then went to North Harris College where I received my Associates Degree in 1995. I then received my Bachelor Of Arts Degree in Music (Cum Laude) in 2000. I currently work in sales for the shoe industry.
I have been involved in many types of music groups and have taken great experiences in each one of them. I have sung and played drum set in pop groups, choirs and various musicals in college and outside groups. I have also played and sang with Cathey Lewis Ministries where I got my first taste of Contemporary Christian Music in the early to mid 90’s. In addition, I have also sung and played percussion in the Woodlands Christian Church Praise and Worship Team located in The Woodlands, Texas.
For the past four years I have been singing in the Good News Singers Quartet in which we sing Southern Gospel Music. My voice part is usually tenor, but I like singing the other voice parts because all of the parts are unique in every piece of music. I hope I continue to keep singing this type of gospel music because I believe it has an awesome message and story to tell about our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

Gordon Skinner
I was born in 1956 and raised in Houston. Since I grew up with two brothers and three sisters, my early years at home were fun and exciting. There’s never a dull moment when you’re around Doris, Russell, Aleta, Steve, and Gayle! We enjoyed entertaining a lot of company and friends, playing games, and participating in many church activities. Mother and Daddy, Jessie and Lavonne Skinner, encouraged me to study the Scriptures, live a Christ-like life, and sing. Uncle Aris Skinner and Uncle Hobson Skinner were great fans of quartet singing and have influenced my life. I have been involved in gospel singing since age 12. My heritage includes my favorite Gospel groups-- the Blackwood Brothers, Statesmen Quartet, and the Happy Goodmans.
After graduating from Southern Bible College, I served as Evangelist and later as Youth Pastor. I attended Sam Houston State University and teach History in Middle School. I sing lead and baritone with the Good News Singers. I enjoy photography, playing piano, singing, and sharing the Gospel.
I’m glad that we are able to look to Christ and cast our care upon Him, for He cares for us.

Jim Hawkins
I was born October 19th, 1938. World War 2 forced my family to move from the small sawmill town in East Texas where I was born to the Denver Harbor addition on the East side of Houston. We began attending Denver Harbor Assembly of God Church at the corner of Zoe and Hillsboro Streets. I was saved and baptized there. I met my wife there and I was married there. I thank God continuously for that opportunity and experience. The woman I met and married at that church 48 years ago is still with me. Together we raised two children, John and Susan. God is good. I am retired from law enforcement.
A group of boys around 15 years old in that Church began to get together and sing Southern Gospel songs. Most of the songs were from the old Hymnals that used to be in a receptacle on the back of the pew ahead of me. We called ourselves the Heavenaires. We tried hard to be like the groups of the early 50’s (The Blackwood Brothers, the Statesman, and the Cathedrals) but we never quite made it. We did have some great times though. However, college, marriage, and careers separated us early on. We had no formal training. We simply sang praises to our Savior, Jesus Christ. We never disbanded and every once in a while we will get together at homecomings or parties and enjoy ourselves singing about Jesus.
I began singing bass then and I never got over it. I continue to do that with the Good News Singers. I still lack formal training but I can’t tell that the Lord minds. He seems to let one of the other guys cover my mistakes and none is the wiser. For a little over a half century I have listened to, loved, and had a small part in Southern Gospel music. Someday when the opportunity presents itself, as I’m sure it will, I’m going to ask the greats (Bill Liles, Jim “Big Chief” Weatherington, George Younce) how they did it. Until then, for as long as I’m able, I will continue to sing God’s praises. I will do that because about 60 years ago there was “A New Name Written Down In Glory.”

Gospel  Express

Webster’s dictionary describes our name like this -

(gos’ pel) n. the announcement of the salvation of mankind by Jesus Christ

(ex  press’) adj.     plainly stated; exact; not implied

We gladly accept that definition for that is exactly what we intend to deliver in our concerts— the good news of salvation by faith in Jesus Christ, plainly stated.

Organized, in 1989, with a vision to spread the Gospel of Jesus Christ through songs that have so profoundly impacted the lives of our members. God has truly blessed in that endeavor. Those who already know the  Lord also need  spiritual encouragement, and we address that in our songs as well.

Gospel Express is no stranger to the concert stage but Sundays find us in church. Thousands have been blessed in worship services led by these men of God.

Come join us in concert or invite us to come worship with you and your congregation, soon.

Harris Family, The

Website: www.harrisfamilymusic.com

E-mail: harrisfamilymusic@earthlink.net

Both Roger and Sue Harris grew up playing and singing various types of music and developed a special love for music at an early age. That love was obviously passed down to their children. Although music, as well as their faith, has always been a big part of their lives, The Harris Family did not begin singing together as an organized Southern Gospel group until early 2003.

At that time, Sue had been singing Southern Gospel music for over ten years as part of a mixed trio based out of the family’s home church. It was through this ministry that the Harris family was first introduced to Southern Gospel music. The style and excitement of Southern Gospel music, combined with the uncompromising message that it proclaimed, had a huge impact on their lives. A seed had been planted in each of their hearts and God spent the next several years preparing them for His service as He would later call the family to begin a Southern Gospel ministry of their own.

It was January 2003 when Sue first felt God leading her to begin a ministry where she could share her heart and her music beyond the walls of her home church. As she answered God’s call and began to prayerfully seek the heart of God, He made it clear to each of them that His call was for the family to sing and minister together! Looking back, it is easy to see how God spent a lifetime preparing each member of the Harris family for such a time as this. Their love for God and their love for each other, combined with their love for music and their desire to reach others for Jesus Christ allowed God to pathe this path for the Harris family. The current members of the group consist of Sue, her husband, Roger, and their youngest daughter, Kristen. Talent runs deep in the Harris family and audiences everywhere are quick to warm up to the great blend and close harmony that is so often found in a family group. Roger and Sue also have an older daughter, Shanna, who sang with the group for a time, however, she recently stepped down as she felt God calling her into other areas of ministry.

The Harris Family has a strong desire for God to use their music and testimony to make an eternal difference in the lives of others by pointing them to the cross of Jesus Christ. Aware that we are living in troublesome and uncertain times where people everywhere are looking for something or someone to put their faith in, the group continually seeks the heart of God, praying that He will give them songs that will lead lost souls to the throne of God’s grace where they can come to know Jesus Christ in a real and personal way, as well as use their songs to offer hope and encouragement to fellow believers.

Sue writes many of the songs that the family sings and the heartfelt message of each song reflects the personal victories in her own life. From growing up in an alcoholic home that oftentimes resembled a battlefield more than a home to later seeing her mother’s life tragically taken, Sue recognizes that she is a living testimony of what God can do, even when we are surrounded by the most difficult circumstances. As a result of these and other challenges that the family has had to overcome, and in realizing that our churches are full of Christians who are beaten down and held captive by their circumstances, God has given The Harris Family a heart and a burden to minister and encourage those who find themselves in seemingly hopeless situations.

Roger, Sue, and Kristen each have a heart that just wants to serve God. They have fervently sought the will of God and with an excitement and zeal for the Lord’s work, they have answered His call. They are committed to the work God has called them to do and they trust in Him alone to give them wisdom and extend to each of them the grace they need in order to walk with Him on this journey.

Humble Hands Quartet

Website: www.humblehands.net

Phone:  903 895 2309

E-mail:  ptpdad@embarqmail.com

The quartet “ Humble Hands” has evolved from the Promise Keeper’s mens movement that started in Tyler, Texas called LinK UP. In 1996, a call for volunteers to staff a praise team was made. Paul Petty put together a small vocal team to lead the Promis Keeper group of men in worship. Out of that team, an idea evolved into forming a quartet that could visit the local churches and help them with their song service. A name had to be picked for the quartet. Paul works for an oil company that once had the name Humble in years past. Paul and other Christian co-workers, while on their lunch break, would get away to themselves to study the Bible in a remote area. Other employees started calling them Humble Hands because it reminded them of years gone by how previous Humble workers would separate themselves from the distractions of the world. It’s a name with more meaning than just a bunch of oil field workers. It’s also a name that places us where Godly men should be “humble” and hard working for the Lord.

There have been many great Godly men as members working with the quartet since it’s beginning in 1996. The group now starts with a new fellowship of members. Don Mitchell from Longview singing lead, Curtis Carr also from Longview singing the tenor part, then from Hawkins W.L. Horton sings the bass, and last Paul Petty out of Overton singing baritone. The group is glad to announce that they are in the studio recording their first project. This cd has been in the plans for 10 years. We felt that God had given us the go ahead, so God matched us up with the best studio and a Christian producer in the East Texas area.

God has been good to Humble Hands and He will see that our needs are met. He is a providing God and has given us everything we've ever needed. The doors have opened up for the quartet’s ministry and they have ministered to a vast number of people. Our prayer is that someone is going to be changed after they have attended a concert with groups like ours. We will strive to be humble, obedient, and place our trust in Him.

Humble Hands Quartet is a traditional southern gospel quartet ministry that has the committed desire to serve the Lord, local churches, and public gatherings in the East Texas area. The members of the quartet are from the Baptist and Pentecostal faith and have been singing in the ministry for many years. They have sung for the US armed forces, open air in town square, churches, retirement / nursing homes, all day singings, oprys, and back yard bar-b-ques. The members are from all over the East Texas area: Longview, Hawkins, and New London.

You will be lifted up with songs made popular by Gold City, Gaither Vocal Band, The Kingdom Heirs, Greater Vision, and many others. And they always have a Heavenly Highway Hymnal song or two. Come on along and sing with them.

God has given me many songs of various genres and topics of the Christian experience that I would love to share with you, because a singer without an audience is like a preacher without a congregation. Many people have said that I remind them of Bob Dylan in my songwriting, guitar, and harmonica playing (even though we all know there’s only one). Most of the 220+ original songs that God has given me are based on scripture, life experiences, and personal prayers and struggles. Please invite me and my wife to minister to your group gathering; we’d be happy to do so. My e-mail is urbiderby@msn.com and home # is 281-443-4610. Thank you very much, and God bless you in Jesus name.

Called to preach in 1984, realizing that call in the year 2000, having spent 16 years in God's school of life.  My sincere desire is to go where the Lord leads and speaks what the Lord says speak.

We believe the answers to life's most difficult questions are still in the same place they have always been, and that being the Word of God...

Therefore we are attempting to dig up the wells of Abraham and seek the old paths, as we are instructed to do in Isaiah.

We would love to come and minister in word and song at your church or gathering, should the Lord so lead.

Hello my name is Myron Lewis my wife’s name is Amanda. We have been married since March 11, 2000.

I was born in Houston, Texas on October 23, 1964. I have one son, Luke, who was born on November 3, 1990.

I started serving the Lord in 1996, and met my wife at church she has been serving the Lord all her life. Her father, Russell Rodgers, is our current Pastor at Healing Waters Fellowship in the Heights of Houston, Texas, where we have been attending for the past 3 years now. I am the Praise and Worship Leader at Healing Waters Fellowship and I am a Licensed Minister. I have had a strong desire to serve the Lord ever since I have met Him. I have always loved singing and just started helping at the church were we meet and grew into the Praise and Worship Leader. After leading worship for approx 3 years we left and followed the path God set for us. That’s how we ended up at Healing Waters Fellowship and there my father-in-law became Pastor. He is a great man and has a powerful message and can also sing like no other I have ever heard.

I just want to spread the love of God through song and His Word. I am willing to go where ever Jesus leads me.

Martin, Barbara

I would like to take this opportunity to acquaint you with the ministry of Barbara A Martin.

Barbara Martin is a native Texan, the youngest of five children born to Rev. Oco (Bill) and Winnie Norris. She accepted the Lord, Jesus Christ as her personal Savior in her early teens. Over the years, Barbara has been very active in the local church. She has served in the Sunday School Department, directed children’s and teen choirs and was a member of the adult choir. Barbara is currently an active member of Grace Baptist Church in Houston, Texas.

Barbara has ministered in various nursing homes in the Houston/Metropolitan area. There, the Lord blessed her ministry with many of the elderly coming to know the saving grace of Jesus Christ.

Barbara lives in Houston, Texas with her husband of forty-nine years, Gerald Martin. They are parents of four adult children, fourteen grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

The ministry of Barbara A. Martin is a faith ministry created and organized for the purpose of sharing the gospel of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ and restoring the Christian values that made our nation great.

Barbara has always had a deep love for America and fully believes our beloved country was given to us by God, blessed and chosen by Him to be a “city on a hill” to shine forth the gospel of Jesus Christ to a lost and dying world. Now, because we have been lulled to sleep by Satan, America is on a downward path and she has turned her back on Almighty God; however, God has promised us in II Chronicles 7:14, “If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.”
Barbara appeals to ALL Christians through the writings of our forefathers, Christian and Patriotic songs written in the early days of our country, as well as new Christian and patriotic poems and songs of faith and freedom. She urges them to heed, obey and claim God’s promise given to us in II Chronicles 7:14. Barbara believes that if we do not heed, obey and claim II Chronicles 7:14, our nation will surely perish.

Barbara is a member of the Bay Area Gospel Music Association. She is available to sing at church services, gospel concerts, patriotic rallies, benefits, etc, wherever the Lord is lifted up and glorified, and wherever He opens the door.  Barbara would appreciate the opportunity of presenting the Gospel in songs of faith and freedom to your audience and extends an invitation to all to share in her ministry and labor of love for Him.

If you would like for Barbara to sing at your church or event, or would like more information concerning her ministry, she can be reached at: (281) 495-4539 - office • website – www.chosenrace.com

My name is Dennis Rehders. I was born in Whittier, California on March 15, 1943. I was raised in Moss Bluff (Liberty) and Beaumont, Texas. Went to school in Liberty and High School in Beaumont, Texas at South Park High.

Alice and I have five children, two are hers and three are mine. We have 12 grandchildren (9 boys and 3 girls) and 1 great-grandchild (a little girl).

I have two brothers and one sister and she has two sisters and one brother. One of my brothers live in Decatur, Alabama and the other lives in Seattle, Washington. My sister lives in Orange, Texas. One of Alice’s sister lives in Conroe, Texas and the other lives in Spring, Texas. Her brother lives in Liberty.

In high school, I played in the band (snare drums) and the orchestra (tympani’s) and sang in the choir (bass)

I didn’t finish high school until I was in the service. I joined the Army in 1960. I spent two four-year tours in Germany, two tours in Viet Nam, one tour in Okinawa, and one tour in Korea. The rest was in the states, Fort Hood, Fort Campbell, Fort Gordon, Fort Bragg, Fort Benning, Fort Sam Houston, Fort Banks, Fort McClellan. I retired in 1981 with 21 years of service.

Went to college in Alabama at the University of South Alabama in 1983, graduated in June 1986 with a BA in Education and began teaching Math and Science. I hold a Masters in Computer Science and I am presently working on a Masters in Biblical Theology. My wife is also working on an advanced degree in Biblical Theology.

I’ve been in the martial arts since 1964 and presently have schools in Alabama.

I was ordained in 1964 and I’ve been singing ever since I can remember. My grandparents raised me and I remember singing on top of the pulpit with my grandfather holding on to me as I sang ‘Jesus Loves Me’.

I started Sonrise Ministries in 1978 in Mobile, Alabama where I had started a group. When I moved to Texas in 1988 to take care of my grandfather, I changed it to Sonrise Ministries of Texas.

My greatest joy is when I sing bass with other quartets to which I’ve belonged. None famous – just around different churches. I started singing by myself a few years ago and was encouraged to cut an album by a very good friend of mine…Charlie Ray Walker. And in December 2003, I made my first album, ‘Because of His Grace and Mercy – Forgiven’, to which he produced and engineered. In December 2004, I purchased some computer equipment for recording and made my second album, ‘That’s No Mountain’. I’m still learning.

We belong to South Texas Gospel Music Association, International Association of Music Ministries and joined Bay Area Gospel Music Association in March of 2005.

We have a radio program on KCYL every Sunday morning at 9:00 and have had it for the past two years.

If you would like to book Sonrise or would like to purchase our CD’s or sermon CD’s, please use the information below. Please check out our website and sign our guest book.

May God bless you continuously with His blessing and look down on you with His favor.

THE SOUTHERN PLAINSMEN QUARTET, organized in May 1978, in the rolling pine-hills of West-Central Louisiana, and is an outreach of the SOUTHERN PLAINSMEN MINISTRIES, INC., a non-profit Christian organization. The ministry, supported by the contributions of its Christian friends, appears in Christian churches, regardless of denominational affiliation, on an expense plus love-offering basis.

The Lord has richly blessed the SOUTHERN PLAINSMEN since its meager beginnings; singing primarily in local churches at that time, the group now travels by private coach to churches and auditoriums throughout the South and, when possible, beyond. The group has had the privilege of appearing from California’s Hollywood Hills, to the Great Northwest, to the Rockies of Colorado, to the Alleghenies of Pennsylvania.

In 1998, the twentieth year in the ministry, THE SOUTHERN PLAINSMEN were appointed “Louisiana’s Ambassadors of Goodwill” by Governor Mike Foster. This is an honor not taken lightly by THE SOUTHERN PLAINSMEN. They are proud of their Christian heritage, proud to be American and proud of the State and Communities from which they hail.

THE SOUTHERN PLAINSMEN are not entertainers in the true sense of the word. Their primary goal is to spread the gospel of Jesus Christ, via the medium of gospel music and Christian witness. THE SOUTHERN PLAINSMEN are not restricted by the boundaries of denomination. It is their strong belief that all Bible-Believing, Christian people must love one another, and work toward the common goal of reaching the lost, rather than criticizing each other’s personal convictions. This policy has allowed THE SOUTHERN PLAINSMEN to appear in churches of almost every faith.

THE SOUTHERN PLAINSMEN are as follows: Marcelle Slaughter, tenor/manager/executive producer/bus driver; new-comer, Daniel Johnson, lead singer; Shawn Masters, baritone/bus driver; Eric Crochet, bass singer; Jay Pleasant, road sound; Tracy Brown, equipment/sound consultant/producer/co-manager; and Terry W. Foster, webmaster.

THE SOUTHERN PLAINSMEN have eighteen albums to their credit. In 1984 the group's first single, “Headed Home”, received extensive air-play from radio stations across the country. Chronologically, the albums are: ON THE BATTLEFIELD (1979), EVEN WINDS WHISPER HIS NAME (1980), LOOKING UP (1980), BACK TO THE BASICS (1982), HEADED HOME (1984), ONE DAY AT A TIME (1985), NEXT TIME (1986), DECADE (1988), GOD MADE A WAY (1991), I KNOW A MAN WHO CAN (1992), CELEBRATION OF MEMORIES (1993), A BRIDGE IN TIME (1994), SIGN ME UP (1995), THE NARROW PATH OF LIFE (1997), REFLECTIONS (1999), HOLD ON! (2000)--produced by Mark Trammell, SILVER ANNIVERSARY (2003), and our latest BY REQUEST (2005).

For ten years, THE SOUTHERN PLAINSMEN hosted a weekly, forty-five minute radio program on Central Louisiana’s KWDF Radio 840 AM. The show, “Southern Gospel with The Southern Plainsmen," featured group news, as well as, area gospel news, interviews with local gospel groups and professional groups appearing in Central Louisiana. Area merchants sponsored the show which was discontinued in January, 2000, when the station was lost to fire.

THE SOUTHERN PLAINSMEN are members of The Southern Gospel Music Association (SGMA), The Bay Area Gospel Music Association (BAGMA), and The Southern & Country Gospel Music Association. Marcelle represents The Southern Plainsmen as a member of The Southern Gospel Promoters Association (SGPA) and the group hosts several concerts each year in the West-Central Louisiana area. Marcelle also co-hosts, with Rich Dupree, SOUTHERN GOSPEL SHOWCASE, a 30 minute Southern Gospel video show each Sunday morning on Central Louisiana's ABC affiliate, KLAX.

THE SOUTHERN PLAINSMEN have made several television appearances, including KNOE-TV’s “JUBILETTE’S GOSPEL SING”, in Monroe, Louisiana, Dan Diamond’s SUNDAY MORNING DOWN SOUTH, and WGGS-TV’s “NITELINE”, in Greenville, South Carolina, and many local cable stations throughout the South. Richard Hensley... "It is a great joy to be able to minister in music and meet new believers in Christ who enjoy good gospel music." Richard also believes that Southern Gospel Music is one of the major tools in reaching people for Christ. Richard is currently pastor of Eminence Baptist Church in Liberty, TX, and also the manager of Voices of Praise Southern Gospel Ministries. "May God receive all the glory and praise! Looking forward to seeing you soon!"

Kathy Hensley... "I have been involved with music most of my life, but it never had a real meaning until I met Jesus..." Kathy is Richard's wife, and Jenn and Kati's mom, and just loves to sing for Jesus. Having been a member of a hard rock band (lead guitarist and vocals) for fifteen years, she knows how music can influence people. Though she loves all kinds of Christian music (no more secular music for her), from Christian Contemporary to Country Gospel, her heart is in Southern Gospel Music...especially quartets. Kathy loves bringing joy through singing the Good News.

Jennifer Hensley... "I think the most thrilling experience is someone receiving Christ as their Savior..." Jennifer believes in singing! She has been singing for almost 17 years now, and has enjoyed it immensely. "Nothing compares to gospel singing, especially when you're in a harmonizing group. It is so much fun! My family has always been involved in music programs at every church we've ever attended, and we never have regretted it. You don't regret anything that you do for Jesus...."

Kati Hensley... "I think the best part about singing is you get to meet different people and sing about Jesus Christ to them..." "Mom and Dad, I love you, but Jesus is #1 in my life!" Any Christian parent would be as proud as we are to hear that! Kati is the youngest member of Voices of Praise and just has started singing with the rest of the family. She loves Southern Gospel Music and also likes Christian Contemporary Music. Her favorite praise band is Third Day and her favorite Southern Gospel group is the Gaither Vocal Band. She is a fun-loving 15-year-old who loves to play the guitar, play with her pets: Spek the dog, Monkee, Shugar, Smokee, and BubbaGirl, the cats, and she also loves to hang out with her friends and witness to other kids.
